What Makes You Unique?

I do a lot of reading and listening to audio teachings that empower and grow me, and this past week I was listening to a well-known bible teacher that suffered from sexual abuse as a child.  She mentioned having many limiting beliefs about her ability when God called her into ministry and the many disparaging remarks that were made concerning her ability, background and mainly her voice. Her uniqueness is her voice.

What limiting beliefs have you been holding on to?

This particular teacher went on to say that although she had doubts and fears she was obedient. She knew that God had placed a desire to spread and teach the gospel to thousands.  The same uniqueness that others said would be a hindrance to her God actually used to show His glory in her life through television, radio, books, etc.

What makes you unique?

As a child I could remember my father telling me that I was very inquisitive as he answered yet another question from me with a smile on his face. One day in my early twenties a co-worker made the remark “You ask to many questions!” in a very mean tone that I hate to admit, made me cry silently as I walked away with a look of hurt on my face.  All I did was ask her how everything was going since we worked in the same department but different areas and we were passing each other in the hallway.  It wasn’t even a stop and chat kind of conversation!  But that day has forever been severed in my mind.  I stopped asking questions for a long time. I know now that it was the adversary’s way of trying to deter what God had for me in my future.

I am very inquisitive.  I ask questions always have, but not just regular questions, no, my questions are thought-provoking and deep.  I like to call them the why behind the why questions. It’s just who I am. God has used my uniqueness to usher in a television show that encourages women to walk in faith and do what He has asked of them.

What has someone said or done to you that you that you have held on to that is keeping you from manifesting the greatness that is within you?

“There is nothing unique about me!” you may say.  Well yes there is.  God designed you.  You were not born to just take up space in the universe and then die.  No, you are here for a specific reason.  He’s gifted you with something that is ALL you!  Yes, others may do or have what you have or do.  But they don’t do it like YOU do!  Go read Jeremiah 1:5 again.  As a matter of fact, here it is for you! “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb.  Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.”NLT

God is NOT, let me repeat, NOT looking for people who are perfect.  He can and will take all of you, every single piece of you that others have written off about you and use it for His glory.

Stop allowing negative thoughts and limiting beliefs to crowd your mind!  You are great!  You are a leader!  You can accomplish and do what God has ordained for you.  YOU ARE UNIQUE!

Use your uniqueness; stop doubting yourself.  Stop allowing people to speak into you words and thoughts of less than.  Let God use you.  Let God’s glory shine through your life!

Do you need proof of God using common imperfect people for his glory?  Read Exodus and the story of Moses; read David the shepherd boy story.  Want some 20th century folks?  How about that bible teacher that has a rough voice or that born and bred Jew ridiculed by their family that God now uses to bring forth His glory?  I’m sure you can think of some yourself.

  • Take some time to write out your uniqueness.  What is that thing that says you?  You probably don’t have to guess too hard to answer it.  It’s what others have negative things to say about it.
  • Once you’ve acknowledge it decide if you really want to be known by it.  You have to know that if it’s inherent, then it will be with you forever, so you might as well use it!
  • Talk to God about it and tell Him you want to claim your uniqueness but you don’t know how.  Ask Him to show you.

Exercise your greatness; start with who you are!

Relationship Insights That Will Help You Go From Purpose to Vision

Relationships, they come in all shapes, sizes and colors.  From familial, to work, to spiritual to friends, they’re there.  Then you have the good ones, the bad ones, the loving, hurtful, toxic or empowering ones.  Well they all do one thing – grow you!

The word relationship is defined as a connection, association, or involvement; an emotional or other connection between people.

You are in a relationship right now – with me!  Think about that.

As a woman pursuing her purpose in God, desperately seeking the way to live out the greatness she knows she is called to, you are going to experience relationships that will empower you, teach you, test you, hurt you and disappoint you.

When I first started this journey of living my life on purpose with God at the forefront, I thought everyone would be happy for me.  Tereciah had found her purpose!  I was so excited that I knew, finally, why I was here on earth and I was bursting at the seams to do something with the gifts, talents, and skills God had given me and allowed me to learn.  I was ready!

People didn’t get it.  And it hurt – a lot.

My husband didn’t get it; my family didn’t get it; the people at work didn’t get it and even some of my Christian friends didn’t get it.  Talk about being deflated!

However, I did not allow those relationships to stop me or derail me and if you are in this situation right now, don’t let those relationships hinder or stop you as well.

Here are some quick insights to help you walk out this journey from purpose to vision.

  • Who Has Your Ear?

I once heard someone say that whoever has your hear has your mind.  If you allow people to speak words of doubt or lies to you, you will start to believe it. You will see yourself as the words they have spoken.  Words DO have power; whether spoken by you or by others.

  •  Surround Yourself

Not everything is good for you and the same principal holds true for relationships.  Not all relationships have your best interest at heart.  Surround yourself with individuals that are positive, willing to share, encourages you and is growing spiritually.  You want to be able to see fruitfulness manifesting in their lives.  You want to see these individuals doing what it takes to bring their vision into reality.  You want to see faith in action, and with that faith iron will sharpen iron.  In other words your faith will grow and increase because of their faith and vice versa.

  •  Disassociate and Pray!

There will be people in your life – family, friends and haters – that you will have to stop associating with.  It doesn’t mean that you don’t care for them or that you don’t love them anymore.  But you are trying to do God’s will and be obedient.  They may not understand.  If that is the case then keep your distance, be cordial and pray.

Well, what if it’s a spouse or a child or a parent or a best friend?  Then hold your peace and pray; hard (that’s another blog post)!

  •  Know Yourself

What things inspire you?  How do you like to be encouraged?  What traits are important to you in an individual (integrity, friendliness, etc.)  How do you see yourself?  Are you willing to grow?  What things are you willing to accept or not accept in an individual?  What type of relationship are you looking for?  Are you willing to change if necessary?  Are you willing to give to others?  Remember relationships come in different forms.

  •  Reflect and Learn

Take some time to reflect on relationships past and present.  Were they good or bad?  How did you end up in the relationship?  How did you grow?  What lesson did you learn?  Were there mistakes then that you see yourself making now? How have you changed?  Why did the relationship come to an end?  How do you feel about the individual or the situation?

Sometimes God removes individuals from our lives because He knows they are not good for us.  There are times when they are only there for a season – or two, and other times He removes you because He needs you alone.  He needs to pour into you; cleanse you; get you into spiritual shape.

  •  God First

Above everything and all else keep God first.  Let him lead and guide you.  Read his word, follow His decrees and allow Him to call you friend!

I hope these few insights have helped you in walking out your purpose to the big picture of what God says is possible for your life; your vision.

In my relationship with you, I hope we can continue to grow together!

To Your Greatness!

Vision to Reality – 5 Easy Steps to Manage Your Time More Effectively

                    Stone steps leading to ocean

By the time you read this the 4th of July holiday will have come and gone and you’ll be winding down to your week – or just getting started depending on where you are and what you are doing.

If you took a couple of days off for the holiday you’ll probably find yourself sluggish in getting back into some sort on normalcy on Monday.

Summer is in full swing, the kids are out of school and you’re wearing multiple hats and juggling various roles.

I know you are busy, but here is a question for you?  How have you altered your summer lifestyle to accommodate God, family, and your vision?

Did you find that you had more time to work on your vision?  What about spending quality time with God?  What goals have you made for yourself and what do you find yourself needing help with?

In order for your vision to proceed you must make time to work it.

I once had a mentor tell me when I first started out, that “the vision was only as good as they vessel.”  Let me repeat that for you because you’ve got to truly understand it.

The vision is only as good as the vessel.

You are the vessel and your vision – the big picture of what God says is possible for your life – starts and stops with you.  God cannot force you to do anything.

So here is a short video I recorded just for you to assist you in managing your time more effectively – starting on Monday.

You can view it on your mobile phone, iPad or even your home computer, just view it and apply it to your life.

Be Blessed!

It’s Already Inside You

“Everything you need to accomplish the vision/purpose God has ordained for you is already inside you.”

Have you ever heard that statement before?  I have.  It’s a statement I tell myself and others all the time.

Recently, I proceeded to ask God a question in regards to that statement.

I said “Father, if you have placed everything that I will ever need to accomplish the task (purpose/vision) you have set before me to do, then how do I get it out?  I want your will to be my will but I’m not skilled  in marketing, or social media, or building a ministry. So, Father, how am I to take what you’ve placed within me, if I don’t know what’s there and how, and when, to use it?”

His answer: Obedience

Yes, obedience.  When we are obedient to God’s instructions then doors open and things happen.  You may not know how you will do it, where to find the resources, or what you will do.  But if you take that first step – and keep moving, God will pull out of you all the necessary parts.

You are the Vessel, and within you is an abundance of resources that God chooses to use to accomplish His task.  You were made in His image.  So, imagine you, the vessel, full of …

Strength; courage; boldness; faith; perseverance; love; gifts; talents; abilities; life experiences; world knowledge, spiritual knowledge, wisdom; understanding; relationships.

It’s an amazing thought, isn’t it?

Imagine this, God gives you an idea, a thought, or command that is so far beyond your grasp you say, “I don’t know how God!”

He tells you “I want you to open a home for battered women.”  You say, “God me? Are you sure?  Where am I going to find the place, the money?  I don’t even know how to run a business!”  But in faith you take the first step, one at a time.

And as you step, He pulls out courage.  You go a little further and need connections, so He pulls out relationships, and then knowledge; and so on until the task is complete.

The relationships are people you’ve met along the way that can give you the expertise, connections or donations you need for that home.  The wisdom is in knowing how to take the information you’ve gathered and make good decisions with it.  The knowledge comes in as you apply it to your vision/purpose.

God’s word says that everything works together for the good of them that love the Lord (Rom 8:28).  Let’s always remember to seek first the Kingdom of God by doing His will for our lives. And although He has called us and we are His vessels, chosen vessels, that obedience is better than sacrifice.

Faith is the substance of things hope for (Hebrews 11:1) – the fulfillment of your dreams, vision, purpose here on earth.

Last but not least, let us remember that God has plans for you.  Plans to prosper you and not harm you; to give you an expected end (Jer 29:11).

Now, go, do, and be all God says is possible for your life!  Remember, it’s already within you!
