I read an article by Joyce Meyers that had this one sentence in it that really made me laugh – at God. The sentence read, “One of the surest ways to know if you’re operating in the flesh is if you’re frustrated all the time.”
Well, I had been frustrated in getting my vision out a lot lately! One day it got to the point I became so upset at the task I was doing and the fact it was not cooperating with me, that I gave God an earful amidst tears and screaming. I literally yelled at Him that I was doing and trying and it WAS NOT WORKING!
I told Him that I was trying to be obedient and do things His way and not mine. I then screamed what else did He want from me? What was I doing wrong? I needed Him to tell me. I was so emotionally spent after that outburst that I went and laid down on my bed.
As I laid in bed, still a bit peeved, thoughts of things I were trying to accomplish ran through my head. And as they flashed I started recognizing where self had played a part. There were a lot of “I don’t” or “I want” or “I feel” or “I don’t feel.” A lot of I, I, I’s were being revealed to me.
He allowed me to see that although I was being obedient in doing, I wasn’t quite so obedient in the how. I thought my way of handling the how was better because, well, it was concerning me!
But guess what? It’s not about me. I’m just the vessel. So, if you find yourself frustrated in walking out the vision God gave you; if you find that you’re being obedient, or think you are, and stuff still isn’t happening or doing they way you want them to, check your “I” meter.
If there is to many “I”s then it won’t work. Frustration is all we will have. Remember, we can do nothing without Christ. He gives us the power to accomplish His will. At the end of the day we are the clay and God is the potter and it’s not about us, but about God!
